Elegant living room with soft pink wave curtains framing a large bay window, complemented by lilac accents and modern furnishings.

At Tracks Direct, questions about wave curtain setups come in regularly—and for good reason. Wave curtains are a sleek, modern option, but they do rely on precise compatibility between the track, gliders, and heading tape to look and function at their best.

One recent customer query involved the Silent Gliss 6840 track, paired with 80mm wave roller gliders and custom-made curtains. The issue? Once hung, the curtains sat about a centimetre too low, creating a less-than-ideal finish.

So, what was going on?

The Anatomy of a Wave Curtain Setup

Wave curtains naturally hang just below the track due to the gliders and hooks—this is intentional to avoid friction and allow smooth movement. However, if they’re noticeably low, it’s usually down to the heading tape or glider configuration.

In this case, the customer had used wave heading tape from another supplier, which had different spacing between the hook cords compared to the official Silent Gliss tape. The result? The curtain hooks were forced to use a higher cord position, causing the curtains to hang lower than desired.

Two Practical Solutions

Tracks Direct outlined two clear options for a fix:

  1. Change the heading tape to the Silent Gliss version. This would allow the gliders to hook into the lower position and lift the curtains those crucial few millimetres. While this requires altering the curtains (often through a curtain maker or workroom), it’s the most accurate long-term solution
  2. Switch to standard 80mm wave gliders (non-roller). These gliders are slightly shorter than the roller glider version and would lift the curtain slightly. However, this comes with a trade-off: roller gliders offer smoother movement, especially for heavier, floor-length curtains.

What Tracks Direct Recommends

For heavier curtains or those prioritising ease of movement, keeping the roller gliders and adjusting the heading tape is the preferred route. Tracks Direct can supply the correct tape, and while the alteration must be done by a third party, they’re happy to provide quotes and guidance.
